History

In April 2006 with the backing of Ayr United F.C., Ayr United Amatuer Football Club was Formed. Ronnie McJannet was given the role of manager and the task to create a competative Sunday amatuer football club to play in the Scottish Supporters Football League. Within the week a rough team had been found many coming from Kaisayr I.F.C. and a handfull of others from various other sources. The first game played under the name Ayr United A.F.C. was against Ayr Parkhouse in a midweek friendly. With a squad of just 12 Ayr lost the game 7-1 with Kerr Rowan scoring the first ever goal for the club. As the weeks went by players came and went, a few bounce games were played and pre-season training continued. On the 3rd of July 2006 Ayr played Motherwell IFA team Fir Park Corner with a result of 2-2. Several more friendlies were played including a 12-1 debacle at the hands of Sandbank Rangers. Ayr were accepted into the SSFL for the 2006/07 season on a probation of one year. 2006/07 saw Ayr promoted in their first year throughout the season 27 players were used but by the end we had been moulded into a strong team which won 8 out of their 10 remaining league games. Ayr finished the league in 2nd place behind Sandbank Rangers a feat that seemed improbable at the start of the campaign.
